Obverse description Central quartered shield of arms surmounted by three ornate helmets with elaborate mantling and crests, including a lion passant at center crest and flanking plume-and-crown crests. The quartered shield displays the arms of the Bishopric of Würzburg and the personal arms of Philip Adolph von Ehrenberg, set within scrolling acanthus-style decorative mantling. The circular legend in Latin reads PHILIP ADOLP D G EPS WIRTZB FRA ORI DVX, identifying the bishop as Philip Adolph, by the grace of God Bishop of Würzburg and Duke of Franconia and the East. The coin's border is decorated with a beaded rim. The overall style is characteristic of early seventeenth-century German ecclesiastical heraldic coinage.
