| Obverse description | Within a beaded inner circle, the crowned Danish royal arms are depicted, featuring three crowned lions passant accompanied by hearts, set upon a cross that divides the field into four quarters. A large ornate royal crown surmounts the shield at the top of the inner circle. The surrounding outer legend in Latin reads CHRI·STIAN·IIII·D·G·DAN, identifying the monarch as Christian IV, by the Grace of God, King of Denmark. The design is rendered in the bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of early seventeenth-century Danish gold coinage. |
