Obverse description Effigy of Helvetia in left profile, her head laureate with an oak wreath secured at the nape by a ribbon whose ends fall behind the neck. The legend CONFEDERATION SUISSE flanks the portrait along the upper periphery, with the date 1854 positioned below, separated by a five-pointed star. The portrait is rendered in a restrained neoclassical style consistent with Bovy's engraving manner.

Reverse description A wreath composed of intertwined oak and alpine rose branches encircles the central field, tied at the base with a decorative ribbon bow. Within the wreath, the inscription ESSAI DE PRESSE MONET. appears in four lines across the field, followed by a short horizontal rule and the engraver's initials M . L . B . The entire composition is contained within a beaded border, with no exergue line. The design serves as a press trial, attesting to the mechanical and artistic quality of the proposed coinage.
