Obverse description The obverse features the iconic 'Semeuse' (the Sower), a draped female figure striding to the left, barefoot, scattering seeds with her outstretched right hand while carrying a satchel over her left arm. Radiating sunrays emanate from behind the figure across the field, evoking the dawn of the Republic. The legend 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE' curves along the left and right periphery respectively, with the engraver's signature 'O. Roty' inscribed in small capitals beneath the figure near the lower rim. The design is rendered in high relief, characteristic of a piefort striking, with exceptional depth and fine artistic detail in the flowing drapery and dynamic pose.
