| Obverse description | The allegorical figure of the Semeuse (Sower), personifying the French Republic, is depicted in full stride facing left, her flowing robes and hair windswept behind her. She carries a seed bag in her left hand and scatters grain with her outstretched right hand, against a background of radiating sunrays rising from the horizon. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the right periphery, while the engraver's signature O. Roty appears in the lower exergue. The design, executed in a refined Art Nouveau style, is characteristic of Roty's celebrated medallic work. |
