Flanking the bird on either side are symmetrical decorative sprigs of indigenous foliage bearing berries, their branches spreading upward to frame the denomination. The numeral 2 appears prominently at the top of the field above the inscription FRANCS, with the territorial name NOUVELLE CALEDONIE arcing along the left and right periphery respectively.

Additional information

The Institut d'Émission d'Outre-Mer was established in 1966 to manage currency for French Pacific territories after the CFP franc system was reorganized following decolonization pressures. Piedfort strikings from the IEOM are scarce in any metal — the 1979 silver examples were produced in extremely limited numbers, almost certainly for official presentation and archival purposes rather than any form of release to collectors through normal channels.

Lecompte 60 confirms the attribution; KM#P5a distinguishes the .925 silver from companion piedfort issues in other metals struck the same year.
