| Obverse description | The allegorical figure of the Semeuse (Sower), striding left in full figure, her hair and drapery caught by the wind, scattering seeds with her right hand while carrying a satchel over her left arm. Behind her to the right, a rising sun with radiating rays emerges above the horizon, symbolising the dawn of the Republic. The peripheral legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE arcs around the upper field, and the engraver's attribution D'APRES O. ROTY appears in small letters at the base of the design. The composition is executed in the elegant Art Nouveau style originally conceived by Louis-Oscar Roty. |
