| Reverse description | The denomination 2 FRANCS and date 1860 are inscribed in three lines at center of the field, surrounded by a wreath composed of oak branches on the right and alpine rose (rhododendron) branches on the left, the two sprays joined at the top and tied at the base with a ribbon. The naturalistic floral and foliate rendering is finely executed, with the blossoms and lobed oak leaves depicted in sharp relief against the smooth field. The inner border consists of raised beading aligned with the milled edge. |

| Additional information |
Switzerland's federal coinage system was still young in 1860, having only been established by the Federal Coinage Act of 1850, and the Bern mint was actively exploring design alternatives throughout the decade. This piece is one of several pattern strikes produced as the Confederation evaluated revisions to its fractional silver coinage — work that fed directly into the broader negotiations that would produce the Latin Monetary Union in 1865.
The HMZ and Richter references confirm its pattern status; it never entered circulation.
