Reverse description The Imperial arms of the Second French Empire occupy the central field: a heraldic eagle displayed, set within an oval shield encircled by a wreath of laurel and oak, and surmounted by the Imperial crown. The shield is flanked symmetrically by two standards bearing the Imperial eagle, their staffs crossed behind the lower portion of the arms, with the cross of the Légion d'honneur suspended at the base. The denomination 2 F is divided across the lower field, flanking the arms at left and right. The legend EMPIRE FRANCAIS arcs around the upper periphery, while the date appears in the lower exergual area between two small decorative stars. The whole composition is enclosed by a dentilated inner border.
