Louis II ruled Monaco for decades but issued remarkably little coinage, and the 1926 2 Francs stands as one of the few circulating pieces from his entire reign. Monaco at the time maintained no mint of its own; these were struck at the Paris Mint, whose privy marks appear on the coin accordingly. The interwar French franc's instability made even small principality issues economically consequential for the territory's residents.
The copper-aluminium alloy was a post-WWI compromise adopted widely across Europe as silver became cost-prohibitive for low denominations.
