Obverse description Allegorical effigy of Marianne as a winged Liberty, her head facing left, rendered in the modernist style characteristic of Bazor. Two contemporary vessels appear in the lower field, one to the left and one to the right behind the Liberty effigy. The date 1948 is inscribed in the exergue. The legend encircles the design, referencing both the French Republic and the French Union, with the engraver's signature L.BAZOR and the initials GB incorporated into the design.
