Obverse description The allegorical figure of La Semeuse (The Sower), personifying the French Republic, strides purposefully to the left in flowing draped robes, her hair and garments billowing in the wind. She extends her right arm forward to cast seeds, while her left arm cradles a satchel of grain. In the field behind her, radiating sunbeams rise above a horizon line, evoking the dawn of a new republic. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the left and right periphery, and the engraver's signature O. ROTY appears in small characters at the base of the design.
