The 1953-dated renminbi fractional notes — including this 2 fen — were printed across an extraordinarily long production run that extended well into the 1980s and possibly beyond, with the 1953 date frozen on all issues regardless of actual print year. The People's Bank never publicly disclosed production volumes or print dates for this series, so attribution of specific printings remains largely speculative among collectors.

The 2 fen denomination circulated actively for decades and was only officially withdrawn in 1955 — then reissued, then demonetized again in stages. By the early 2000s all three fen denominations had been formally retired, though the 2 fen had already largely disappeared from daily use through simple attrition.
