Additional information

Moulay Sulayman's reign was marked by deliberate withdrawal from European commercial entanglement — he closed several Atlantic ports to foreign trade and suppressed the powerful merchant factions that had grown around them. Bronze fractional coinage of this period circulated almost entirely in domestic markets, particularly in inland souks where silver was hoarded rather than spent. The absence of a mint name on this type has never been definitively resolved; attribution attempts have pointed to both Fez and Marrakech without consensus.
