Obverse description The bimetallic inner disc bears the conjoined effigies of King Willem-Alexander and former Queen Beatrix, rendered in right-facing profile. A curved legend to the left reads 'WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN' and a corresponding curved legend to the right reads 'BEATRIX PRINSES DER NEDERLANDEN', with both inscriptions arcing around the central design. At the apex between the two legends appears a colored crown symbol, while the date '2014', the mint master mark, and the Utrecht mint mark occupy the lower portion of the inner disc. The coin's outer ring is adorned with the twelve stars of the European Union.

Additional information

Issued to mark Willem-Alexander's accession following Queen Beatrix's abdication on April 30, 2013 — the first Dutch abdication in over seven decades, continuing a pattern the Netherlands has now repeated across three consecutive monarchs. The colored variant was produced by the Royal Dutch Mint for the collector market; the base KM#356 circulation strike lacks the applied color entirely.
