| Obverse description | The national side features a stylised rising sun motif derived from the original design by artist Ansis Cīrulis, which also forms one of the fundamental elements of the Coat of Arms of Latvia, reinterpreted for the coin by artist Ivars Drulle. The sun is rendered in a bold, graphic Art Nouveau-influenced style with radiating rays filling the central field. The inscription UZLECOŠĀ SAULE, meaning 'The Rising Sun', appears in the legend alongside the issuer name LATVIJA and the date 2019. The rising sun motif was widely used as a patriotic symbol at the time of the founding of the Latvian state, representing the dawn of a new nation. |
