| Obverse description | The inner disc depicts a stylized figure of an athlete draped in the Belgian national flag, arms raised in a gesture of victory, derived from the official Belgium Olympic Team logo. Below the figure, the five Olympic rings are rendered in relief, with the legend TEAM BELGIUM arching across the lower portion of the central field. The year of issue, 2016, appears to the left, while the national mark BE is positioned to the right, flanked above by the Brussels mint mark — the helmeted head of the Archangel Michael — and below by the privy mark of the currency commissioner. The design was engraved by Bernard Gillard in a clean, modern style emphasizing national pride and athletic achievement. |
