Issued to mark the centenary of Estonia's 1917–1918 path to statehood, this coin commemorates the period between the February Revolution — which dissolved Russian imperial authority over the Baltic provinces — and the Estonian Declaration of Independence on 24 February 1918. The declaration was proclaimed just hours before German forces occupied Tallinn, leaving the new republic's actual sovereignty in suspension for nearly a year until the armistice on the Western Front forced a German withdrawal.
