| Obverse description | The nickel-brass centre features a detail of the Pallas Athena statue positioned before the neoclassical Parliament building in Vienna, depicting the goddess of wisdom wearing an Attic helmet surmounted by a sphinx. The effigy is rendered in high relief against a plain field, capturing the sculptural character of the original 1902 fountain designed by Theophil von Hansen, who also designed the Parliament building completed in 1883. Pallas Athena is presented as a symbol of Austrian parliamentarianism, embodying wisdom, reason, and strategic prowess. The legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH arcs along the upper portion of the inner disc, while the commemorative inscription 100 JAHRE and the date 2018 appear in the lower field. |
