This coin marks the centenary of the Provincial Museum for Carniola's permanent home in the Auersperg Palace in Ljubljana — the institution itself dates to 1821, making 2021 its bicentennial. Founded under Habsburg administration, the museum survived two world wars, occupation, and the dissolution of Yugoslavia to become Slovenia's oldest and most significant natural history repository. The Auersperg connection is notable: the palace passed through considerable political turbulence before being permanently assigned to the museum's collections.
