| Obverse description | The nickel-brass centre features a stylised design commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Portuguese Red Cross. At centre-left, a flowing abstract motif rendered in continuous curved lines evokes a sense of humanitarian care and movement, while to the right an open-grid red cross composed of raised square elements dominates the field. The Portuguese coat of arms appears at the top centre, accompanied by the legend PORTUGAL in the upper field. The arc inscription CRUZ VERMELHA PORTUGUESA curves along the left periphery, with the commemorative dates 1865 and 2015 flanked by dots along the lower inner rim. The engraver's initials A.M. and the mint mark INCM appear in small letters at lower right. The outer copper-nickel ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. |

| Reverse description | The standard European common reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, occupies the nickel-brass centre and depicts a large numeral 2 at left, with a relief map of the European Union to the right, rendered in a stippled finish. The legend EURO is inscribed across the map, with the designer's initials LL visible in small letters. The outer copper-nickel ring carries twelve raised five-pointed stars arranged in a circle, representing the member states of the European Union. |
