| Obverse description | The central field features a dynamic composition of 27 swallows in flight, one for each EU member state, encircling the country code BE at the centre of the inner disc. The birds are rendered in a stylised, unified formation evoking collective movement and cooperation. At the lower left, the curved legend BELGIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU 2024 arcs along the inner rim. To the left of centre, the designer's initials IB (Iris Bruijns) appear above the mintmaster's mark — an erlenmeyer flask with an aster — and the mintmark of the Royal Dutch Mint, the caduceus (Mercury staff). |
