Reverse description The reverse displays the common European Union design for the 2 Euro denomination, featuring a stylised map of the European continent rendered without internal national borders, set against a background of horizontal lines. The face value 2 EURO appears to the left of the map in large numerals, with the designer's initials LL incorporated into the design. Twelve stars of the European Union encircle the entire design within the outer ring.

Additional information

The University of Liège was founded in 1817 by William I of the Netherlands, who controlled the southern provinces following Napoleon's defeat. The institution was deliberately planted in Liège — a city with a long history of resistance to outside rule — as part of a broader Dutch strategy to integrate and pacify the Belgian population through education. It didn't work. The university's own graduates were among the most vocal agitators in the 1830 revolution that produced Belgian independence.
