Andorra only gained the right to issue its own euro coinage following a monetary agreement signed with the European Union in 2011, which came into force in 2012 — remarkably late for a state that had informally used both French francs and Spanish pesetas for decades without ever being a formal EU member. The first Andorran euros didn't reach circulation until 2014. This 2016 issue falls within the earliest years of that independent coinage.
