| Obverse description | The inner disc depicts a detailed relief view of the Mnajdra megalithic temple complex, one of Malta's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, rendered in a naturalistic style with careful attention to the characteristic coralline limestone masonry and trilithon facades. The legend MNAJDRA TEMPLES / 3600-2500 BC appears in the upper field above the architectural motif, while the country name MALTA and the year of issue 2018 are inscribed in the lower field. The designer's initials NGB appear discreetly to the right of the temple depiction. The outer copper-nickel ring features the twelve stars of the European Union arranged around the circumference. |

The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union evenly spaced around the full circumference, separated by fine vertical lines at the cardinal points. |
