| Obverse description | The inner disc features a dynamic crowd scene rendered in relief against the backdrop of the Governor's Palace in Valletta, commemorating the granting of majority representation to Malta in 1887. The legend MALTA - Majority representation 1887 is inscribed along the upper periphery of the inner disc, with the year of issue 2012 positioned in the lower field. The design, executed by Maltese artist Ganni Bonnici, conveys a sense of civic jubilation through its animated figural composition. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union arranged in a continuous circle. |
