Reverse description The large numeral '2' dominates the left portion of the nickel-brass centre field, rendered in bold relief with a subtly sculpted surface. To the right, a geographic representation of the fifteen member states of the European Union as constituted before the 2004 enlargement is depicted, with lines of longitude and latitude visible in the field. The inscription EURO is superimposed across the centre of the map in capital letters. Twelve stars of the European Union are arranged along the outer copper-nickel ring, and the engraver's initials LL (Luc Luycx) appear at lower right of the inner disc.
