| Reverse description | The standard European Union reverse design for the 2 Euro denomination features a stylised geographical map of Western Europe rendered across both the inner disc and a portion of the outer ring. The bold denomination 2 EURO is superimposed over the map, with the numeral 2 set in the open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Twelve stars of the European Union are arranged along the right arc of the outer ring, divided into two groups of six above and below the map. Six vertical stripes traverse the inner disc, visually linking the upper and lower star groupings. The designer's initials LL appear in small characters within the design. |

| Additional information |
Italy has issued commemorative 2 euro coins at a rate that strains the definition of "commemorative," but this piece marking the 170th anniversary of the Polizia di Stato has a legitimate historical anchor: the corps traces its institutional origin to 1852, when it was established under the Kingdom of Sardinia — predating Italian unification by nearly a decade. The modern civilian police force was formally reconstituted under its current structure in 1981, separating it from its earlier militarized identity.
