Beneath the effigies, two wedding rings are depicted, flanked by the commemorative inscription '14. Luxembourg issued two versions of this commemorative in 2021 — a standard circulation strike and this hologram variant, produced in limited numbers for collector sets. The subject is the 40th wedding anniversary of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who married on February 14, 1981. Henri acceded to the throne in 2000 following the constitutional crisis that forced his father Jean to abdicate after the parliament stripped the Grand Duke of royal assent powers — a consequence of Jean's stated refusal to sign a euthanasia bill into law.
