| Reverse description | The reverse displays the standard European Union common design for the 2 euro denomination, featuring a geographic representation of the European continent rendered without internal national borders across the central field. The face value '2 EURO' appears to the left of the map, with the designer's initials 'LL' (Luc Luycx) incorporated discreetly into the design. Six fine lines representing meridians and six arcing lines representing latitudes overlay the continental map, and the twelve stars of the EU are divided between the upper left and lower right of the outer ring. |

Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Luxembourg's independence and dynastic continuity, this coin commemorates Grand Duke Henri alongside his great-great-great-grandfather Adolphe, who became the country's first independent sovereign in 1890 when the Dutch-Luxembourg personal union dissolved after Queen Wilhelmina's accession barred him under Salic law. Adolphe had spent decades as the dispossessed Duke of Nassau before finally inheriting Luxembourg at age 73.
