| Obverse description | The inner disc features a contemporary stylised portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam, referencing one of the most celebrated historical depictions of the humanist scholar, set against a field traversed by radiating connecting lines that form a network of links extending from node to node, symbolising the academic and cultural exchanges of the Erasmus Programme across Europe; several of these links converge to form additional star motifs, evoking the synergy among participating nations. The numeral '35', denoting the programme's 35th anniversary, emerges prominently from the star composition in a modern graphic style, accompanied by the dates '1987–2022' and the inscriptions 'ERASMUS PROGRAMME' and 'ESPAÑA'. The engraver's initials 'J.J.' appear in the field, and the mint mark 'M' for Madrid is also present. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union flag. |

Spain's 2022 Erasmus commemorative marks the programme's 35th anniversary — launched in 1987, it has since moved over 12 million students across European institutions. The choice to issue this coin fell to multiple eurozone members simultaneously, meaning nearly identical designs were struck at mints from Helsinki to Lisbon as a coordinated pan-European release, one of the larger such joint commemorative efforts under the euro framework.
The Royal Mint of Spain struck its allocation under the M mintmark. Collector demand for the full set of participating nations' versions has driven secondary market premiums well above face on sealed mint rolls.
