| Obverse description | The inner core features a stylised portrait of the humanist scholar Erasmus of Rotterdam, rendered in a contemporary graphic style, superimposed over an abstract network of interconnecting lines and nodes radiating across the field, symbolising the intellectual and human exchanges fostered by the Erasmus Programme across Europe. Several of these connecting links converge to form star motifs, evoking the unity of European nations. The numeral '35', commemorating the 35th anniversary of the programme, emerges from the star pattern in a bold, modern typographic treatment.
