The upper part shows the lettering `KARL DER GROẞE` (Charlemagne), the lower part the year of issue `2023`, the right side the `D` for the issuing country followed by the mintmark of the respective mint (`A`, `D`, `F`, `G` or `J`) and the left side the initials of the artist Tobias Winnen (`TW`). The whole design is surronded by the twelve stars of the European Union on the outer ring.
