| Obverse description | The bimetallic inner disc features a detailed architectural rendering of Neuschwanstein Castle as seen from the east, with the gatehouse prominently in the foreground and the Neo-Romanesque towers and turrets rising behind it, set against a stylised alpine panorama capturing the castle's dramatic clifftop position above the Pöllatschlucht gorge; the design was executed by Erich Ott. The legend BAYERN is inscribed across the upper portion of the inner disc, identifying both the depicted monument and the issuing German federal state. The mint mark (A, D, F, G, or J) appears in the right central field of the inner disc, while the designer's initials are positioned to the left. The outer ring, composed of copper-nickel, bears the twelve stars of the European Union arranged around the circumference, with the country initial D at the top and the split date 20 12 at the bottom. |
