Additional information

Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which in March 1957 established the European Economic Community — the direct institutional ancestor of the EU. The Netherlands was one of the six original signatories alongside France, West Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Luxembourg, making this a commemorative with genuine founding-member weight behind it. All eurozone states issued their own national variant of this design simultaneously in 2007, one of the few coordinated common commemorative programs the eurozone has undertaken.
