Additional information

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of the publication of Moriae Encomium — Erasmus's satirical masterpiece written in 1509 while staying at Thomas More's London home, though not published until 1511. The Rotterdam-born humanist spent much of his career outside the Netherlands, yet the Dutch have claimed him firmly as a national figure. This coin was struck in the final years of Beatrix's reign before her abdication in favor of Willem-Alexander in April 2013.
