| Obverse description | The central field features a globe with a euro symbol at its centre, symbolising the global reach of the common currency over its first decade of circulation. Surrounding the globe are allegorical motifs representing the euro's significance to daily life: a family group, the Eurotower, a merchant vessel, a factory, and two wind turbines, evoking society, finance, trade, industry, and sustainable energy respectively. The legend NEDERLAND arcs across the upper field, while the commemorative dates 2002-2012 appear in the lower field, flanked by the designer's initials A.H. and the euro symbol. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union, as is standard for all eurozone coinage. |
