Obverse description	The central field depicts a frontal view of the Arkadi Monastery, a historic Cretan landmark, rendered in fine relief. The monastery's name, ΜΟΝΗ ΑΡΚΑΔΙΟΥ, appears in the lower portion of the inner disc, while the issuing authority ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ is inscribed to the left and the date 2016 to the upper right. A palmette, the mintmark of the Bank of Greece Mint, is positioned below the central inscription, and the monogram of engraver George Stamatopoulos appears at the lower right. The twelve stars of the European Union flag are arranged in the outer ring.

Reverse description	The standard euro reverse designed by Luc Luycx features a relief map of the European continent extending beyond the coin's borders, without national boundaries, set against a lined background representing longitude and latitude lines. The denomination 2 EURO is inscribed to the left of the map in two lines, with the designer's initials LL incuse below. The twelve stars of the European Union are arranged around the outer ring, separated at the top and bottom by the join between the bimetallic components.
