| Obverse description | The central field depicts a frontal view of the Arkadi Monastery, a historic Cretan landmark, rendered in fine relief. The monastery's name, ΜΟΝΗ ΑΡΚΑΔΙΟΥ, appears in the lower portion of the inner disc, while the issuing authority ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ is inscribed to the left and the date 2016 to the upper right. A palmette, the mintmark of the Bank of Greece Mint, is positioned below the central inscription, and the monogram of engraver George Stamatopoulos appears at the lower right. The twelve stars of the European Union flag are arranged in the outer ring. |
