The "2nd map" designation refers to the revised European map design introduced across the Eurozone in 2007, replacing the earlier version that had omitted Cyprus and Malta — both of which joined the EU in 2004 and were conspicuously absent from the original common reverse. Belgium, along with all other member states, was required to update its circulating €2 coinage that year to reflect the correction.
