Andorra was admitted to the United Nations on 28 July 1993, making it one of the last European states to join — decades after most of its neighbors. The delay stemmed largely from Andorra's unusual constitutional situation: until 1993, it operated under a 1278 co-princeship arrangement with no formal constitution, leaving its international legal status ambiguous enough that UN membership was effectively on hold. The new constitution and UN admission came in the same year.
The 30th anniversary commemoration in 2023 is one of relatively few Andorran €2 issues tied directly to a domestic political milestone rather than a shared eurozone theme.
