Obverse descriptionThe coin features a carnation in the center as a symbolic representation of the revolution, surrounded by several eccentric circles. Running along the right edge of the picture is the verse “Esta é a madrugada que eu esperava” (This is the dawn I have been waiting for) from the poem “O Nome das Coisas” by the poet “Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen”. . At the bottom of the picture the national coat of arms and the issuing state “Portugal” as well as the dates “04/25/1974_2024. Above left you can see the coin designer “HENRIQUE CAYATTE” and the mint “CASA DA MOEDA”. The twelve stars of the European flag are depicted on the outer coin ring.
