| Obverse description | The inner disc features a stylised globe rendered in the form of a euro symbol at centre, symbolising the global significance of the single currency over its first decade of circulation. Surrounding the central motif are allegorical vignettes representing key facets of European society: a family group, the Eurotower, a merchant vessel, an industrial factory, and two wind turbines, emblematic of energy and research sectors. The designer's initials 'A.H.' appear discreetly between the ship and the Eurotower in the field. Along the upper edge of the inner disc appears the country name in Greek and Turkish — ΚΥΠΡΟΣ KIBRIS — and along the lower edge the commemorative date span '2002 – 2012'. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union. |
