| Reverse description | The standard European 2 Euro reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, displays a large bold numeral '2' to the left of centre, accompanied by the denomination legend EURO. A stylised map of the European Union occupies the right portion of the inner disc, rendered with fine stippled detail. The twelve stars of the European Union are divided across the outer ring, with six stars at upper right and six at lower right, separated by parallel lines. The designer's initials 'LL' appear discreetly within the design. |

| Additional information |
All eurozone members were required to issue a commemorative 2 euro coin in 2009 marking the tenth anniversary of Economic and Monetary Union and the introduction of the euro as a book-entry currency — one of the few instances where a common reverse design was mandated across the entire zone simultaneously. Greece joined EMU at the start of 2001, two years after the January 1999 launch, having initially failed to meet the Maastricht convergence criteria on inflation and deficit thresholds.
