Obverse description The central field features a stylised stick figure whose body merges fluidly into the euro symbol (€), a design created by Geórgios Stamatópoulos to symbolise the unity of people and currency within the Economic and Monetary Union. The inscription 'EMU 1999-2009' appears in the field, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the introduction of the euro, alongside the country names 'SUOMI FINLAND' and the date '2009'. The engraver's initials 'ΓΣ' are present in the field. The outer ring carries the twelve stars of the European Union evenly spaced around the circumference.
