The effigy is rendered in high relief within the brass centre. The legend 'ESSAI - PATTERN - PROBE' arcs along the upper portion of the inner disc, with the date '2003' inscribed in the lower field. The copper-nickel outer ring features an alternating pattern of Swiss crosses and star-like ornaments. |

| Reverse description | A topographic relief map of Switzerland occupies the right portion of the brass centre field, rendered with fine detail to suggest the mountainous terrain of the country. Superimposed prominently over the map is the large numeral '2', with the denomination legend 'EUROP' inscribed to its right. The copper-nickel outer ring is decorated with the same repeating motif of Swiss crosses and ornamental stars as on the obverse. |
