Obverse description Draped bust of Pope Benedict XVI facing right, wearing papal vestments and skullcap, occupying the brass centre. The circumferential legend in the copper-nickel ring reads BENEDICTVM XVI * PONTIFEX MAXIMUS *, with the date 2005 positioned at the base of the ring. The portrait is rendered in a naturalistic style with fine detail on the facial features and clerical collar.

Reverse description A draped allegorical female figure, personifying Europa or Justice, is depicted seated in three-quarter view to the right within the brass centre, resting against a shield and raising a torch aloft in her right hand, from which radiant rays emanate upward. The large numeral '2' appears prominently to the left of the figure. The inscription PROBE is incuse at the base of the centre, and the copper-nickel ring bears the twelve stars of Europe interrupted by decorative elements.
