Obverse description The inner core presents a dual portrait design commemorating 175 years since the reign of Grand Duke Guillaume II. To the left, an equestrian statue of Grand Duke Guillaume II (1792–1849) is depicted in profile, while to the right appears the right-facing effigy of the reigning Grand Duke Henri. The semicircular legend 'GROUSSHERZOGE VU LËTZEBUERG' arcs across the upper portion of the design, with 'GUILLAUME II 1792–1849' inscribed beneath it in the upper left field. The anniversary numeral '175' and the year '2024' appear below the portrait of Grand Duke Henri, with the mint mark and privy mark positioned in the lower field. The coin's outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European Union flag.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the Nassau-Weilburg dynasty's rule over Luxembourg, this coin commemorates both Henri I — the first Grand Duke under the 1815 settlement that created the modern Luxembourgish state — and Guillaume II, King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg, whose reign saw the 1842 Zollverein accession tie Luxembourg's economy firmly to the German customs union. The pairing of two rulers on a single commemorative reflects the dynastic complexity of Luxembourg's early sovereignty, when the Grand Duchy was simultaneously a personal possession of the Dutch crown and a fully autonomous political entity within the German Confederation.
