| Obverse description | Left-facing effigy of Grand Duke Henri I of Luxembourg occupies the central field, rendered in restrained low relief with naturalistic detail to the hair and jacket collar. Twelve five-pointed stars, representing the member states of the European Union, are arranged in an arc along the upper periphery. The Luxembourgish country name LËTZEBUERG curves along the lower rim, followed by the mint year, with the engraver's initials GC appearing adjacent to the date. |

Luxembourg's euro coinage launched in 2002 under Grand Duke Henri, who had ascended the throne just two years earlier following his father Jean's abdication in October 2000 — making Henri the first Luxembourgish monarch to appear on euro-denominated circulation coinage from the series' inception. The country's mint contract has historically been fulfilled by external facilities, with Luxembourgish coins struck at Utrecht and later at other European mints, as the Grand Duchy has never operated its own mint.
