| Obverse description | The left profile portrait of King Albert II (modified from the one on the 1999-2007 coins) is surrounded by the twelve stars of the Union, between two of which are the letters BE for `Belgium` and the royal monogram: an A with the numeral II underneath, topped by a crown. As of 2009, the effigy is again the same as on the 1999-2007 coins, because the change of effigy in 2008 was contrary to the recommendations of the ECOFIN Council. |
