| Obverse description | The obverse depicts a view of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a masterpiece of Spanish Romanesque architecture and one of the foremost pilgrimage sites in Christendom, rendered in relief at center. The country name ESPAÑA appears in the legend, accompanied by the date and the Madrid mint mark. The royal monogram is present in the field, and twelve stars representing the European Union encircle the design, five of which are partially obscured by a horizontal band dividing the composition. |
